Cinematic reference: ‘My Hero Academia’ surprises in new chapter by mentioning ‘Titanic’

Recently, the manga “My Hero Academia“, also known as “Boku no Hero Academia”, came under the spotlight and became one of the main topics among otakus on duty. It turns out that the manga created by Kohei Horikoshi brought some references to the film “Titanic”, directed by James Cameron, in its latest edition.

This is not the first time that the manga has mentioned other classic works, extremely well known to the public. This is because “My Hero Academia” had previously mentioned films such as “The Untouchables” and “La La Land”.

But why mention ‘Titanic’?

The reason why the manga was inspired to mention “Titanic” in the last edition was thanks to the repercussion of the case in which five people went to visit the wreckage of the ship using a submarine made available by the OceanGate company, but ended up dead after an implosion.

The news led many social media users to remember the film and the shipwreck, which occurred in April 1912, leaving more than 1,500 people dead.

In which chapter were the references?

According to a publication made available on a Twitter account, the manga would have made the reference throughout chapter 392 of “My Hero Academia”. The tweet was accompanied by the following caption: “Film posters referenced in chapter 392”.

More about ‘My Hero Academia’

The manga tells a story set in a world where a large part of the population has superpowers, known as “Quirks”.

The protagonist is called Izuku Midoriya, and he is a young man who was born without a “power”, but ends up being inspired to become a hero, thanks to his idol, All Might.

Despite his initial restrictions, Izuku has just received the power “One For All” from his great idol, and enters the Academy, that is, an elite educational institution that trains young people with superpowers.

For those who want to follow the anime, adapted since 2014, it is possible to watch it on Crunchyroll.
