‘Batman and Scooby-Doo’: New edition’s plot features the Court of Owls

The Court of Owls is part of the Batman anthology.

To be a Batman villain, you need to have at least a college degree. In case you haven’t noticed, most villains (maybe all of them) have some sort of education. The Court of Owls is no exception.

Especially since we are not referring to a villain, but to an organization made up of Gotham City’s aristocrats. The group acts using its trained assassins known as Talons to carry out all its plans to control the city, acting behind the “political fabric”.

For years, this group has proven to be one of Batman’s deadliest enemies, even warranting an adaptation for the DC shared universe animations in the film “Batman vs Robin”, as one of the main elements of the plot.

Sometimes, it’s hard to imagine such a lethal enemy being presented in a more frivolous way, since there’s this dark context with hints of conspiracy theory, but what’s presented in the issue of “Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries” #3 shows that they managed to modify the villain’s tone without changing his character.

They are making a great adaptation for the universe of the beloved puppy and his team of detectives.

Scooby-Doo and Batman

In the issue that pits DC Comic’s greatest detective against the greatest detectives in animation, we see the Scooby gang being invited to attend a birthday party at Gotham’s Court of Owls Hotel.

According to the comic, the hotel has been closed for years due to rumors that the place is haunted by the undead Talon. According to the story, the real aristocratic court of Gotham would have sent his assassin, who even after his death continued to haunt the place and prevent the organization’s name from being used.

In the greatest “vibe” of Scooby-Doo stories, the gang parachutes into a new mystery, when their intention was just to celebrate the owner’s niece’s birthday. In the middle of the party, we have the surprise presence of Bruce Wayne, who intends to buy the place from the owner, who still refuses the offer.

During the celebration, the comic shows us Claw trying to scare away the people present, as has always happened for centuries. So, the gang – with the help of Batman (who mysteriously appears after Bruce’s disappearance) – comes up with one of their crazy plans to capture the “monster”.

It is then that the edition presents us with the true history of the place.

There has never been a Court of Owls sending an assassin.

It was just the owner of the place who followed his ancestors’ tradition of using the place as a base for criminal operations while using the rumor and the population’s fear about the Court of Owls and its assassins to scare away any “meddling children” who could disrupt the operations.

And that’s how we have an original and fun story about the group of investigators side by side with such a dark “character” from the antagonistic cast of the bat.
