A Mattelin partnership with Paramount Pictures and production company Temple Hill, known for works such as the “Twilight” saga, revealed plans for a new doll film, after the huge success of ‘Barbie’, which became the biggest box office hit of 2023.
The new film production will be centered on the ‘American Girl’ doll line, promising to bring a captivating and striking narrative to the big screen.

The direction of this long-awaited project is in the hands of Lindsey Anderson Beer, renowned for her work on the latest film in the ‘Pet Sematary’ franchise.
In a press release, Anderson Beer shared her personal connection to the ‘American Girl’ dolls:
“As a kid, my sister and I had American Girl dolls. I had Kirsten and she had Molly. They weren’t just dolls to play with, but real characters whose worlds we immersed ourselves in. They are historically accurate toys that offer detailed and engaging backstories, especially suited for adaptation on screen.”
The American Girl line was launched in the late 1980s and is known for its dolls that represent different historical periods in the United States. Each doll is accompanied by a book that details her life and context in history.
Although production has been confirmed, there is still no scheduled release date for the film. However, expectations surrounding this new adaptation are high, especially after the resounding success of “Barbie”.
‘Barbie’Mattel’s previous film, directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, performed exceptionally well.
With over $1.4 billion grossed globally, the film was nominated for several prestigious awards, including the Grammy, the Critic’s Choice Awards and the Golden Globe.
Its release in HBO Max is scheduled for Friday, December 15, promising to bring its magic to a new audience.
