Comic books (comics) are full of deaths, many memorable and others completely forgettable. Marvel and DC’s main heroes have been in circulation for over eighty years, so logically we’ve had all kinds of stories.
Therefore, to captivate the audience, sometimes it is necessary to take risks, such as killing the main hero. This is a huge milestone in the history of not only comics, but the world in general.
In 1993, DC Comics had declining sales of the Blue Boy Scout, as well as some other magazines. How did you resolve this? Super man was killed by Apocalypse, the abomination created just to kill the hero.
The event was so remarkable that it made news in most newspapers around the world, immediately becoming one of the most iconic stories of all time.
However, while Superman becomes a martyr and an example for everything he does, one of his best friends does not receive the same treatment.
Major Deaths in Comics
When we talk about death and Batman, for any comic book fan, everyone immediately remembers Jason Todd, the second Robin.
In one of the most gruesome deaths in comics, arrogant young Jason Todd is beaten with a crowbar by the Joker, while left to die in a warehouse explosion.
This death placed a target on Bruce Wayne’s back for years, and he was extremely criticized by everyone for taking a child to the battlefield, consequently putting everyone’s lives at risk.
Recently, in the Batman comics, another major loss was that of his own son, Damian Wayne, which once again placed the Gotham vigilante under criticism.
However, what is being discussed here is not Wayne’s character, but the hypocrisy of many who criticize him, especially Clark Kent. As we said, while some deaths are always remembered, others are forgotten, like those of Clark’s “children.”
What happens is that, officially, Clark had five children, two of them having been “killed” through his direct or indirect fault.
Children of Superman
Everyone remembers Clark’s biological son, Jon Kent (who was tortured due to his father’s negligence), but there is also Chris Kent (Lor-Zod), who was taken to the Phantom Zone while Superman could do nothing. In addition to the two, there are Osul-Ra and Otho-Ra, children adopted by him and Louis, rescued from Terra Prime.
And the most recent “son” is his sidekick Boy Thunder, with a story basically the same as Clark’s, but coming from another reality. After being defeated by a villain, Boy Thunder is pulled back into his destroyed reality, as Clark swears he will find him.
Although Thunder and Lor-Zod were not theoretically dead, Clark’s charges were ripped away from him to whatever fate. Even though Damian and Jason died, they eventually came back to life and are active members of the Bat-family, which continues to protect (as much as possible) its members.
Meanwhile, Clark continues to lose his godchildren. So apparently, it’s not Bruce who deserves criticism.
