“Umran Malik can be a superstar in all formats of the game” – Brett Lee

When it comes to speed sensation Ümran Malik, there are always mixed opinions. While some salute the young talent, others believe that speed is nothing if the bowler line, length and strokes are not there. However, it cannot be agreed that Ümran Malik needs to do a lot to develop.

The 22-year-old driver found Sunrisers Hyderabad of the recently concluded IPL 2022. The best thing about him is his consistency in bowling at 150km/h. He remained the fastest bowler in IPL 2022 (157 km/h) until Lockie Ferguson (157.3) of the Gujarat Titans replaced him in the finals. The Jammu & Kashmir player will likely make his debut in the home match against South Africa, which will start on 9 June.

Australian veteran speedster Brett Lee is one of those who believe that Umran Malik should be included in the squad for this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia (16 October 13 November).

In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, Brett Lee was asked who the other two shooters would be for the T20 World Cup, aside from Jaspreet Bumrah. lee said:

“Hard to say. You have five or six different options. I’ll give you one choice, Umran Malik. I think it’ll be great to see the youngster get a quick bowling opportunity by running over a better wicket to suit his bowling style, you know bouncy wicket. Bowling over 150 km/h is hard work, let’s not get around that fact. The reason many bowlers bowl at 130kph or 140kph is because it’s hard to bowl fast all the time. I love what I see in the kid. I like what he brings to the table. And I think he could be faster. “

He also stated that Ümran Malik is needed to manage well and the management would have to let him bowl freely. Because sometimes many coaches, when they see a man bowling at 150 km/h, say, ‘it can be very expensive, let’s try to get his pace back and try bowling with superior players’. “He can hit 150 km/h and swing the ball. So why don’t you do it,” Lee said.
