Last year, Google introduced its first connected watch, the Pixel Watch, at the same time as the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro. Due to its high price and the use of a rather old chip, The device hadn’t really managed to compete with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and 5 Pro.
However, that may well change this year. According to 9to5GooglePixel Watch 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon W5 Plus chip. The 4nm processor was announced last summer and promises to double the performance and offer days of battery life. As such, it will replace the Exynos 9110, engraved at 10 nm.
Pixel Watch 2 will benefit from improved autonomy
Using the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 processor, Pixel Watch 2 will have the best technology on the market. for now only one watch uses the same chip: TicWatch Pro 5. The classic Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 has been used in some Chinese watches, including the OPPO Watch 3.
Therefore, we can expect not only a much faster tracking, i.e. a smoother interface, but also more autonomy. According to official Google estimates, Pixel Watch can last for 24 hours With Always-On Display, it charges on one charge, and tougher use will consume it even faster.
So the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 should ensure the next generation is more durable and likely to last a few days between two charges. For example, it is announced that the OPPO Watch 3 can offer up to 5 days of battery life.and even up to 14 days in “Lite Smart” mode.
So the new chip could fix the biggest flaw in Google’s clock. It is not yet clear whether this will be the only change we are entitled to, or whether the American giant will take the opportunity to improve the design, especially by reducing the black bezels around the screen.
