Apple has officially introduced a new high-end watch series, the Apple Watch Series 9. These are direct successors to last year’s Apple Watch Series 8 and, as every year, improve on the American manufacturer’s winning formula. There are some minor improvements to the program, but they are always welcome.
Apple Watch 9 continues to accelerate
It’s been almost 3 years since Apple significantly improved the performance of its Apple Watch, but this series marks the arrival of a new, faster S9 chip built with the same technology as the A15 processor in the iPhone 14. It promises 30% more powerful performance. The GPU ensures that the clock runs more smoothly.
The result is a watch that is faster but above all more autonomous than ever before. Making the chip more energy efficient allowed Apple to further expand the autonomy of the device. It now offers 18 hours of endurance, enough to last all day.
On Apple Watch Series 9, Siri now operates directly on the device, like iPhones. It now also shows your health data, including precise tracking of your menstrual cycle.
New sensors for Apple Watch Series 9
Apple Watch Series 9 is also equipped with a new temperature sensor that promises more precise measurements without sacrificing battery life. The new generation watch is also equipped with a new Ultra WideBand U2 chip that aims to improve location features, including the use of Apple’s Find My service. Now you’ll be able to easily find your iPhone, your watch will tell you exactly which direction it is and how far away it is.
There was no revolution this year in terms of design, but Apple still changed the production process of the steel version. As we learned recently, the case of the device is now 3D printed. This is the company’s first carbon neutral product. We still find an LTPO OLED display, but this time the peak brightness goes up to 2000 nits and can even go down to just 1 nit.
Apple Watch comes with watchOS 10, the new version of the smartwatch operating system. It offers some exciting new features like Smart Stack, which gives Apple Watch users a new way to interact with their smartwatch. Widgets return on Apple Watches, and there’s also a new health feature called Daylight Time that uses the ambient light sensor to measure the time you spend outside. The watches also support NameDrop, one of the best features of iOS 17.
Apple also introduces a “Double Tap” feature that allows you to answer a call or turn off an alarm by tapping two fingers together. To do this, it monitors your blood pressure to identify movement.
