On Saturday evening, July 7, while he was quietly celebrating with his family, the deputy mayor of the village of Chein-Dessus noticed. Linky counter in the party room started smoking, report our colleagues at Dépêche du Midi. Recently changed, meter connected “hanged out a few times” throughout the evening.
Linky: Two more fires on the counter?
The deputy mayor immediately got in touch with a technician from the power grid manager Enedis. The man had to replace the meter. “This time it’s not a squeezing issue” stated as soon as the technician arrived on site. According to him, fire “could be caused by the meter itself”.
“No additional devices were installed that could explain the power surge” Added the technician. As our colleagues at Capital noted, this is the first time an expert has directly blamed the Linky counter. “An investigation is underway. We discuss what may have been said in the article in La Dépêche du Midi. We are waiting for the results of the analyzes to draw conclusions.” She defends Géraldine Foucher, responsible for communications at Enedis.
Later that week, another Linky counter was accused of causing the fire. As reported by the regional daily L’Avenir de l’Artois, a Lapugnoy resident accuses the meter of setting a fire outside his home. “From Wednesday night, July 4th to Thursday, July 5th”. According to testimony, Linky would be installed on Monday, July 2.
Last June, two other Linky meters were also accused of being the source of the fire. For now, the smart meter has not yet been formally questioned by experts. What do you think of these new facts? Can you install a Linky meter in your home?
