A developer just launched A version of Google Maps adapted for Android Wear, the operating system for connected watches. Despite some flaws, its watch support may prove optimal for geolocation application.
Since the arrival of GPS applications on the phone, we continue on our way not only by car, but also on foot or by bicycle. However, holding your phone in your hand like a handlebar at the same time to look at a map of the environment is not very ergonomic and can even be dangerous. It was a very rapid decline.
This is probably what prompted Dheera Venkatraman to adapt Google Maps to the Android Wear format. You can refer to the map displayed on your wrist at any time. For now The app is still in Alpha and has a few bugs and shortcomings. It is already possible to center the map by location, but it is impossible to search for a specific address, for example. It is up to the user to navigate according to the map.
As such, it’s not yet a full-fledged GPS to guide you, but Mini Maps will certainly be well received by hikers and cyclists who now wish, powered by Google Maps. self-directed rather than directed by software. This is why Mini Maps is less efficient than Google Maps or any other mobile GPS, but much less bulky. If the application meets the expected success, the remaining functions of Google Maps will likely be adapted soon.
App already downloaded several hundred times freeand compatible with all Android connected watches from Samsung, LG, Motorola and soon HTC One Wear watch.
