Choosing a connected watch is a bit like choosing a smartphone. Before you settle on a specific model, you need to know if you want a device that will work under the following conditions. Apple watchOS Or Use operating system from GoogleIf the former is consistent with a major annual update, the same cannot be said for the latter. Trips are anything but regularand sometimes you have to wait 2 years to see a new version come out. Use OS 3 It was created in May 2021 and then Use OS 4 In May 2023. The 5th iteration was announced this year, perhaps heralding a change in policy.
But this is not the only aspect of the system that can be criticized. There is one constant that we can get by without: Each version of Wear OS is based on a year-old version of AndroidWear OS 5 is based on Android 14, Wear OS 4 Android 13etc. It would be an exaggeration to say that having an Android connected watch is a guarantee of being one step behind. It seems that Google is aware of this and is preparing to fix it.
Wear OS update 5.1 shows Google preparing for radical change
The clue comes from a beta version of Wear OS 5.1 that was spotted during tests on the Pixel Watch 2. What you need to remember, beyond the new features it brings and the ones that are not yet known, is that it will be based on Android 15. Google could finally develop Wear OS alongside Android and it’s not behind anymore. It’s even entirely possible that Wear OS 5.1 could be renamed to: Use OS 6 when released to clearly state the difference.
Currently only available on Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra related to SAMSUNG Run under Wear OS 5. And again, you have to rely on the overlay One UI Watch 6.0.
