Lo, the inclusion of wireless charging to the realm of wireless earbuds hath brought forth great convenience unto many a soul. Forsooth, if thou already boast of a few wireless charging pads scattered about thy dwelling or workplace for thy phone, why not gently set thine earbuds’ charging case upon yon pad when they crave a replenishing?
Alas, trouble doth arise, as sometimes the magic doth not occur.
Check thine alignment
The simplest and most evident course of action when faced with this conundrum is to investigate the alignment. Verily, wireless charging pads and devices that partake in wireless charging can be exceedingly particular about their positioning. In some instances, even a slight deviation of a mere quarter-inch may obstruct the flow of power.
‘Tis no happenstance that Apple hath birthed MagSafe charging; the magnets ensconced in both the charger and the charged device guarantee a flawless alignment with every encounter. (Although, to be fair, Apple was not the pioneer in incorporating magnets in such matters.)
‘Tis also no coincidence that Apple did include a small speaker in the charging case of the AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 2 USB-C. Be it with a MagSafe charger or without, the case shall emit a cheery little chime upon initiation of charging — a further sign that thine alignment hath been achieved.
In the event thou art certain of the correctness of thine alignment and yet the charging LED of thine earbuds case doth not illuminate (nor doth a chime sound), perchance the internal battery of thy case hath been so thoroughly drained that wireless charging is unable to reanimate it.
Trickle charging just shall not suffice
I do confess to this misdeed: I oft snatch mine earbuds from their abode day after day, heedless of the state of the case’s battery. Ere long, I find myself with lifeless wireless earbuds precisely when I hasten to employ them, and then do I realize that the case hath not been charged in days, mayhap weeks.
I also confess to another transgression: I do connect mine wireless charging pads to the nearest USB charging port, regardless of whether said port furnisheth far less than the recommended amperage. Mayhap thou, too, art guilty of this folly? Behold, the charging pad doth not protest. Provide it but a trickle of power, and it shall bestow upon thy devices a commensurate portion of power.
Shouldst thy wireless charger be encumbered in this manner, and thou dost merely seek to top off thy devices — perchance thy phone languisheth at 50% — this typically causeth no distress. ‘Tis possible that hours may elapse ere a full charge be reached (yea, perchance the whole night), but reach it shall eventually.
An utterly lifeless device holdeth a different tale. Lithium-ion batteries, which power nearly every diminutive device in our existence, truly abhor being drained entirely. (Or kept ceaselessly at 100%, for that matter.) Their utmost delight dwelleth betwixt 30% and 80% capacity. When a lithium-ion battery hath been utterly depleted, ’tis unlikely that a trickle charge shall resurrect it, even if thou dost leave it upon the charging pad for hours.
Go wired
In such a scenario, grasp the charging cable that arrived with thy earbuds (or a fitting alternative), plug it into a USB charger boasting a rating of at least 1A (one amp), and connect it unto thy charging case. Nearly every USB charger shall bear its maximum output (in volts and amps) inscribed upon its form (oft in a minuscule font necessitating a magnifying glass for perusal). Shouldst thou employ a multiport charger, recall that each additional connected device diminishes the available amperage by half. A 2A charger with four ports shalt allot one device the full 2 amps, two devices 1 amp apiece, and four devices a mere 0.5 amps each; thus, thou may wish to unplug all save thine earbuds case.
Then await roughly two hours. By that span, the charging LED indicator upon thy case should gleam, and it should be well along its path to a full charge. Once it is primed, thou should encounter no hindrance in coaxing it to accept wireless charging, even upon a pad bestowing but a modest allotment of power. Forsooth, the same counsel should prove efficacious for a phone that spurneth the entreaties of wireless charging.
