Lo, the annual software updates from Apple doth arrive, laden with a bevy of new features. And lo, the latest update for Apple TV to the illustrious tvOS 17 (currently in public beta) is no exception to this rule. Yet a singular new feature doth capture our hearts, one for which we hath yearned tirelessly, it seems, through the annals of time.
For now, at long last, thou can set a sleep timer on thine Apple TV. Not on yon television itself — a task which would surely require a second remote control — nay, but on the very Apple TV hardware itself. Here is the method to accomplish this feat.
—
Behold, Open the new Control Center
The tvOS 17 update doth bring forth a revamped Control Center, akin to the one revealed by swiping inward from yon top right corner on an iPhone or iPad. Yet, as there be no method to swipe upon an Apple TV, this feature hath dwelt in obscurity. The tvOS 17 update doth make this Control Center more visible, and behold, it is here that thou shalt find the coveted Sleep Timer feature.
Step 1: Hold down the TV button (located just above the volume-up button) on the Apple TV Siri Remote. In but a moment, the Control Center shall expand before thine eyes.
—
Step 2: Select the Sleep Timer option.
—
Step 3: Choose the duration for which thou dost desire thine Apple TV to remain alight. The options do include 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 2 hours.
And lo, it is done. That a sleep timer should be such a simple addition doth underscore its dire necessity, a portent of times past when such a feature was sorely lacking. A blight upon the otherwise peerless streaming hardware thou can purchase. But lo, it is here now. Henceforth, thou can feast thine eyes upon thine Apple TV late into the night, free from the concern that it shall linger until the wee hours of morn. For the Apple TV sleep timer shall bid thee adieu at a respectable hour.
And so, slumber soundly, dear reader.
