WhatsApp Desktop now supports up to 8 participants, 32 audio video calls

If the heart of WhatsApp is indeed in its messaging system, and especially in end-to-end encryption, the Meta app is putting more and more emphasis on calls. Recently, for example, we’ve seen it add PiP mode for video calls, a feature users have been waiting for for a long time, to the iOS version. But more importantly, the company focuses specifically on group conversations.

Indeed, messaging no longer hides its ambition to infiltrate professional circles, competing with big names in the industry like Teams, Google Meet or Zoom, among others. It also gradually increased the number of participants that could be invited to a call. To date, 32 people can join a video call at the same time.

WhatsApp Desktop is slowly catching up to the mobile version

However, this capability is reserved for Android and iOS versions of the app. On desktop, users have long been limited in this area. It’s a shortcoming that Meta came to fix this week. In a blog post, Mark Zuckerberg’s group announced that a new update is finally available for Windows users that increases the number of group call participants.

The latter will be able to climb up to 8 for video calls and 32 for voice calls. That’s why we stay below the limits on mobile, but it’s still an important development. “We will continue to increase these limits over time so you can always stay connected with your friends, family and colleagues”Adds meta.

In addition, this new version also improves the performance of the application, especially when syncing with other devices. Meta finally announces the arrival of a beta version of WhatsApp for Android tablets and Mac.
