By default, you’ll see unread and new incoming messages at the top. However, it may be unclear whether the top message is old, while new messages are far below the list. This is something many Samsung Galaxy phone users experience. If your Galaxy phone isn’t showing messages from newest to oldest, you’ll need to troubleshoot.
When you open the Messages app on your Galaxy device, it will display the old messages first followed by the most recent ones at the bottom. It’s a mess to navigate as all your messages are in the wrong order. If it is not fixed quickly, you will waste a lot of time to find the relevant message by date and time in the app.
Why Does Your Samsung Phone Have the Wrong Message Order?
The biggest culprit for incorrect ordering of messages on Samsung is incorrect date and time. When using a Galaxy phone without a SIM card or if you recently changed a time zone, you may notice that the phone has an incorrect date and time.
Another problem could be related to the network settings on the phone. That said, we will discuss and cover each troubleshooting method in the post. Lets start.
1. Check the Date and Time
The most common reason for Samsung phone to show wrong message queue is wrong date and time in Settings app.
It usually occurs when you change the date and time manually or change it incorrectly. For example, by default, the newest messages are at the top and the oldest at the bottom in the Messages app. But if the device itself is set to the wrong date and time, the messaging app will incorrectly sort the messages.
Follow the steps below to set the date and time on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app on your Samsung Galaxy phone.
Step 2: Scroll down to General administration.
Stage 3: Select Date and time.
Step 4: Enable automatic date and time switching.
Long press the power button and restart the phone. Open the Messages app and check the order of the message in the app.
2. Force Stop the Messages App
If the default Messages app is still not working normally, you need to force close the app completely in the background. Here’s how.
Stage 1: Tap and hold the Messages app and tap the app info button.
Step 2: The application will open the information menu. Find the Force stop button at the bottom and tap on it.
Confirm your decision and also uninstall the app from the multitasking menu. After a few minutes open the app again and check the order of the messages.
3. Reset Network Settings
Incorrect network configurations can also cause wrong message queue on your Samsung phone. Fortunately, you don’t need to rush to your carrier to get it fixed. Samsung offers a handy network settings reset function in the Settings app. Here’s how to use it.
Stage 1: Open the Settings app on your Galaxy phone and go to General Management.
Step 2: Select Reset and tap on Reset network settings from the menu below.
This option will reset all your network settings including Wi-Fi, Mobile Data and Bluetooth. So be careful when using the option.
4. Clear Messages App Cache
Every Android app out there collects cache in the background to speed up common tasks on the phone. The Messages app does the same thing.
However, power users may end up with an excessive cache data load. You need to remove the cache to allow the app to run normally.
Stage 1: Long press the Samsung Messages app icon and go to the app info page.
Step 2: Scroll down to Storage.
Stage 3: Tap on Clear cache from the menu below.
5. Check Other Message Apps
If the wrong message order persists in the default Messages app on Samsung, you can look for alternatives.
Google Messages is a capable app that has gotten a lot of attention lately. Another strong competitor is Microsoft Organizer.
Arrange Your Messages in the Correct Order
You can also manually update the Messages app from the Galaxy Store if none of the methods work. You can also reset your Galaxy phone from scratch but don’t forget to backup the phone’s data first. If you found another trick that worked for you, share it in the comments below.
