All Android phones come with the default Google Photos gallery app. While it’s a capable proposition in its own right, OEMs like Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi are bundling their Gallery apps to get things done. Among them, the Samsung One UI Gallery app stands out with tons of editing, editing options and a neat OneDrive integration. Read on to find the best Samsung Gallery app tips and tricks.
For starters, Samsung’s Gallery app is available on all Galaxy models. You can always use the Google Photos app side by side. The following cheats are taken from One UI 3.0 based on Android 11. So let’s start.
1. Add a Photo to Favorites
Most Samsung mid-range and high-end phones have a camera system capable of capturing photos and videos. You will most likely fill the device with hundreds of camera samples in a short time.
If you’re having trouble navigating through them, we recommend choosing a photo. Open a photo and tap the little heart icon in the lower left corner. You can easily access these photos from a separate Favorites folder in the Samsung Gallery app.
2. Move Photos to a Secure Folder
With Android 7.0 Nougat, Samsung has integrated Secure Folder for all Galaxy devices. A secure and separate workspace to store sensitive and business files, media, contacts and email.
You can always move your private photos to a Secure Folder on the Samsung device. Open the photo and tap the three dots option in the lower right corner. Select Move to Secure Folder from the menu below and your photo or video will be moved to Secure Folder.
3. Hide Albums
Hide albums is another nice trick to keep private photos and videos away from prying eyes. By default, the One UI Gallery app shows every folder available on the device. You can always hide a specific folder (let’s say WhatsApp folder or Twitter folder) from the Gallery app.
In the Gallery app, go to the Albums section. Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner and select Hide Albums. Disable the albums you want to hide from the main menu and you’re all set.
4. Explore OneDrive Integration
In close partnership with Microsoft, Samsung has integrated Microsoft apps and services throughout version One UI 3.0. Samsung Tasks works well with Microsoft To-Do, Samsung Notes has smooth integration with Microsoft OneNote, and the Samsung Gallery app has a direct syncing process with OneDrive.
Open the Gallery app on your Samsung device. Go to App Settings and enable Microsoft ID and OneDrive integration. This is a godsend for those who work at home with Windows desktops. From the Samsung Gallery app to the big screen, you can quickly view and access all photos.
5. Group Similar Images
Did you accidentally click on 10-12 similar images using the shutter button? It will take up a good amount of storage and display space on the device. Samsung has a neat trick up its sleeve to counter the problem.
Go to the Pictures section and tap the little square icon in the upper right corner. The system will group similar looking images and free up viewing space for others.
6. Convert Photos and Videos While Sharing
Not every smartphone is compatible with HEIC image format and HDR10+ video. Samsung knows the incompatibility. The company offers an option to convert these photos and videos to the universally accepted format.
Simply go to Gallery Settings and scroll down. Enable the convert option before sharing HEIC and HDR+ video and the system will handle the conversion from their side.
7. Remove Location Data
This is another privacy trick from Samsung. By default, when you share a photo with the other person, they add the location details to the photo.
Samsung lets you extract location information from a photo before sharing it. Open the photo and tap the share icon. Enable Remove location data and you are ready to share it with others.
8. Use Smart View
Smart view is an interesting addition from Samsung. You can quickly view content on supported devices from the Samsung Gallery app. For example, Smart View allows you to mirror the photo or video from your Samsung device to your friend’s Galaxy device. You can also watch directly on Samsung smart TV.
Open any photo and tap the little play icon in the top right corner and view them on supported devices.
9. Samsung Smart Search
Did you like the last black forest pastry? Just open the photo and tap the view option in the top right corner.
The system will use the built-in search menu to find similar cake recipes from the Pinterest platform. You can also search for books and other objects using the Amazon search built into the Gallery app.
10. Explore Editing Options
One UI Gallery app comes with powerful photo editing capabilities. We were so impressed with the number of options that we never needed a third-party editing app from the Google Play Store. Let us give you a tour of Samsung’s editing options.
Open any app and tap the edit icon at the bottom. You can choose from dozens of built-in filters (you can even download them from the Galaxy theme store), add stickers, doodle on pictures and even add text. You will be surprised to see a thoughtful editing app here.
Use Samsung Gallery App Like a Pro
Go through the above tricks and start using the Gallery app on your Samsung device like a pro. We liked the neat organization using the OneDrive integration, the Secure Folder plugin, and the hide album option.
