Microsoft is investing more and more in the Android ecosystem – the firm already offers a lot of apps, including a Launcher and Office suite. Under Android, too, Microsoft has chosen to return to the marketing of mobile phones with the Surface Duo. So it’s no surprise that the company Redmont put its little finger in the seam of the pants to further improve the user experience on Android.
Microsoft Office is getting a new and unique app on Android, download the APK
The latest example of their commitment on Android: the appearance of a new unique Microsoft Office application (“Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and More” or Office Mobile) on the Google Play Store. It brings together Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office Lens (Document Scanning) in one place and is currently available in Public Preview beta on Android.
This lets you create and edit Office documents, as well as take notes, scan documents and even sign PDFs. Apparently, this app is linked to Microsoft OneDrive cloud storage solution, which brings the user experience of this new app even closer to that of Google Drive.
From this new application instance, it is not yet clear whether this means that individual Word, Excel or PowerPoint applications will eventually be removed. We told you that the app is currently in public beta – the most curious can test it out by following these steps:
