Over the past few days we’ve finally started to see Google’s latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update arrive on multiple Nexus tablets, and news suggests an upgrade is coming soon for the Nexus 9. A Nexus 9 Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update arrived today as an over-the-air update and we have all the details below.
In November, Google released the new Nexus 9 tablet after making an official announcement in October, making it the first device to launch with the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop software. However, most other Nexus smartphones and tablets have seen multiple updates to fix the issues, but the Nexus 9 is still stuck on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop.
News broke this week that the Nexus 9 android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is in its final testing stages and could arrive soon, and this morning the Nexus 7 started receiving the latest software. Today, Google is rolling out an update for the Nexus 9, but that didn’t turn out to be what anyone expected or wanted. Here’s what we know.
We were thrilled this morning when we saw an update available for our own Nexus 9, but unfortunately that’s Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, an update that Google released in November for almost all Nexus devices. For whatever reason the Nexus 9 is stuck on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop, while all other Nexus smartphones and tablets released in the last two years got Android 5.0.2 followed by Android 5.1 Lollipop in March and now Android 5.1 update. .1 Lollipop.
The Nexus 9 is Google’s latest tablet, and many expect it to be the first to receive software updates. Instead, it’s the only device that hasn’t received an update in over five months, and many owners are pretty frustrated. Below is an update that started hitting users’ tablets this morning, but sadly it’s only Android 5.0.2 Lollipop that was released in November.
We’re not sure if it’s the dual-core 64-bit NVIDIA processor inside the Nexus 9 or some underlying issues preventing Google from updating the device, but even the 2012 Nexus 7 is on the latest Android 5.1. Not if .1 Lollipop is Nexus 9. Many expected today’s update to be the latest version of Android, but unfortunately that is not the case.
However, Google may be releasing Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update for Nexus 9 to fix a few bugs and prepare the device for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update, which is the main software update aimed at fixing all bugs. Features from 5.1 and fixing many of the performance issues and issues plaguing the Nexus 9.
Those with Nexus 9 can expect a minor 23.3MB update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop to arrive as an over-the-air update today or in the next few days, and it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to complete. We hope that after it arrives, Google releases the factory images and starts rolling out the latest and highly anticipated Android 5.1.1 Lollipop upgrade for the Nexus 9. The tablet needs it and we will update as soon as we know more details.
Users can check settings > about tablet > check for updates or wait for the wireless notification to arrive in the coming days to get the latest Android 5.0.2 Lollipop for Nexus 9 manually.
