Nearly five months after the release of Android 5.0 Lollipop and Nexus 9, Google has now released a larger bug that fixes the Android 5.1 Lollipop update alongside a few minor updates. We’ve seen countless Nexus devices all get updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop, but those with the latest Nexus 9 tablets are still waiting, but it should arrive soon.
In June, Google released Android L, known as Android 5.0 Lollipop, which the company fully announced in October and released on the new Nexus 9, Nexus 6 and Nexus Player in November. They quickly released Android 5.0.1 and Android 5.0.2 with fixes, but this month they released a major Android 5.1 Lollipop update. One that fixes many major bugs.
The Android 5.0 Lollipop update brought a host of new features to Android and was released on the Nexus 9, but since then the tablet has been left without any bug fix updates. Nexus 7 owners have Android 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 and are currently running the latest version 5.1, but the Nexus 9 still hasn’t received some of these updates. However, we’ve seen some movement on that front lately, and below are some owners need to know.
On March 9, Google confirmed Android 5.1 Lollipop after weeks of rumors and speculation and made a quick announcement that it’s coming soon for Nexus users. Unfortunately, that announcement didn’t specify exactly when which devices would see the update, and that’s the problem Nexus 9 owners are having.
Since then we’ve seen Android 5.1 Lollipop arrive for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, some Nexus 7 users and Nexus 10, and finally those with the new Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 9 should see it too. . For whatever reason these two devices are experiencing a lag, not to mention the Nexus 4, but it should be here soon.
Android 5.1 Lollipop Update
We’ve enjoyed the Android 5.1 Lollipop update on the Nexus 6 so far, and it’s a huge improvement over the overall experience of the original Nexus 7, a device that was in serious need of an update after the initial Android 5.0 update arrived. Below are some of our first thoughts and impressions of Android 5.1 Lollipop.
So when will the Nexus 9 see Android 5.1 Lollipop? We’re not entirely sure, but it should be very soon. While most Nexus devices are already seeing 5.1 updates, the Nexus 9 could get it anytime, not to mention Motorola is testing it on some of the latest devices. Google’s Nexus devices often see updates first, and the Nexus 9 should have been among the first to take advantage of the update, but for whatever reason it hasn’t appeared yet. This may be due to the NVIDIA Tegra K1 Quad-core processor under the hood, but neither Google nor NVIDIA has responded to questions about the missing update.
Nexus 9 Android 5.1 Version
What’s up? This week the Android 5.1 Lollipop update has officially landed on the Android Open Source Project called AOSP. This is where Google pushes final builds for developers to test and work with Android and is currently listed as “Android 5.1.0_r3”. However, the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 have released new factory images for the Android 5.1 update, and we’re even seeing it. Nexus 9 5.1 update on AOSP. It originally came as Android 5.1.0_r1, but now the r3 version has come with additional fixes. Google has added a few more changes to Android 5.1 since announcing and releasing it a few weeks ago, and it should finally be ready to push the update to the remaining devices.
This means that since releasing Android 5.1 Lollipop on March 9, Google has made a few additional changes and is now rolling out the official Android-5.1.0_r3 update to AOSP; which means we can wait for the over-the-air updates to start. Factory images will be published on Google’s siteand more.
Now that the final version of Android 5.1 Lollipop has hit AOSP, hopefully this means that the over-the-air update for the Nexus 7, Nexus 9 and Nexus 4 smartphone will start arriving. That doesn’t mean updates are ready, but if they haven’t yet, it’s usually a sign that they’re about to arrive. All other Nexus devices have already been updated to Android 5.1 Lollipop and these are the remaining three devices.
It would not be wrong to say that the Nexus 9 Android 5.1 Lollipop update is coming soon and will fix a number of problems. Battery life should be improved, performance will be faster and more responsive, and hopefully some minor bugs in Android 5.0 will be fixed.
Slow Arrival
When it arrives, it will be a slow and gradual update. Google’s updates usually don’t affect all devices at once, as Apple does, and instead pushes them slowly to all owners to make sure there aren’t any fatal errors while they’re being rolled out. If they do, the download will take longer to complete, and if anything goes wrong, millions of owners won’t be able to stop the process before they get the update.
As a result, Nexus 9 owners are still using the software that the tablet released in November, and many of the problems users are experiencing are still present. We can expect the Nexus 9 Android 5.1 update to launch soon, hopefully this weekend or early next week, and reach all users over the next few weeks.
Android 5.1 Issues
The release of Android 5.0 Lollipop was the software debut and as expected a few minor bugs needed to be fixed. After millions of users got it, more reports surfaced that made Google work on a fix.
