Lenovo Mirage Solo is the World’s First Standalone Daydream VR Headset

Lenovo Mirage Solo is the world’s first standalone Daydream VR headset. It’s a product that gets rid of two big troubles for VR users. You won’t have cables hanging from your head and you won’t need a phone or PC. Back in 2017, Google promised to launch its standalone VR kit, and at CES 2018 Lenovo finally delivered it.

Mirage Solo packs everything into one powerful, affordable and easy-to-use device. While it has as much power as most high-end smartphones, it is completely self-sufficient. The result is an immersive 110-degree VR experience anywhere that blurs the lines between reality.

Lenovo’s new Mirage Solo VR has a little bit of everything. The all-in-one headset provides plenty of power, has a crisp 5.5-inch Quad-HD display, a wide field of view, and enough battery for 7 hours of uninterrupted VR entertainment. Read on for more details on the exciting new WorldSense technology and the full feature sheet.

Lenovo Mirage Solo “all in one” VR

Alongside the all-in-one Daydream VR setup with motion controller, Lenovo’s Mirage Solo features WorldSense. It combines six degrees of freedom with real-time body and head tracking technology. WorldSense allows you to act and explore in your virtual environments as if you were really there. Walking around is moving your head, leaning around corners while riding a motorcycle, or ducking around in games or wandering around VR spaces.

What this means for average users is that you have the freedom to enjoy VR anywhere. The headset has everything you need and WorldSense understands the world around you. That way you don’t run into walls, sofas or anything else in the real world.

In traditional VR headsets, this happens with huge sensors in your “VR room” or living room. It gives you a little space to work and play, that’s all. Basically, the Lenovo Mirage Solo VR gets rid of pretty much every pain point when it comes to virtual reality.

As for the specs, the Lenovo Mirage Solo is pretty strong. Inside the earphone, it uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor platform that powers the most popular Android smartphones in the market. There’s also 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage for apps and VR games, and a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD LCD display with 110-degree FOV.

It also has surveillance cameras, a motion camera, a motion controller, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD slot to expand the storage up to 256GB. It’s basically a powerful Android smartphone inside the Daydream VR headset. It runs Android 7.0 Nougat and Google’s Daydream OS.

There’s also around 7 hours of non-stop VR gaming, Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi, and a massive 4,000mAh battery that promises everything you’d expect from a high-end Android device.

When it came to fitting the device, Lenovo first thought of comfort and overall fit, then everything else. The area that touches your face and forehead is soft, breathable padding with comfort in mind. Then there’s a quick-release button for viewfinder settings, though Lenovo says it’ll fit any size head. You’ll also enjoy adjustable dials and size adjustments for any face shape and visual aids like glasses.

Additionally, since most headphones have all the weight on the front, Lenovo built the Mirage Solo with a uniform weight distribution system for overall comfort. That way, you’ll look and feel good while enjoying VR for 5-7 hours if you want.

Lenovo also announced a new Mirage Camera with a 180-degree VR lens. A camera designed to take stunning photos and VR videos that you can instantly share on YouTube VR and other platforms.

So when and how much can you get it? The Lenovo Mirage Solo will be available in the second quarter of 2018 for under $400. Stay tuned for more details.
