Inbox by Gmail is closing permanently on April 2, 2019.

Do you use Inbox by Gmail? As of April 2, 2019, you will have no choice but to go directly from the web interface and the Gmail app (or any other alternative client of your choice). Google has been warning its users for 6 months that the end of the service is approaching. But all we know so far is that Inbox by Gmail will close its doors by the end of March.

Inbox by Gmail: Google announces death of alternative email client on April 2, 2019

However, some users are getting a new message from March 18th stating the exact closing date: “This app will disappear in 15 days” [au 18 mars, ndlr]. You can find your favorite Inbox features in the Gmail app. Your messages are already there waiting for you”. Within 15 days yesterday, i.e. 14 days at the time of this writing – this would mean a scheduled end of service on April 2, 2019.

Inbox by Gmail allowed Google to test new features and integrations before the best ones were found in Gmail. When Google announced the end of the service in September 2018, it referred to Inbox as: “great place to try new ideas”. Its shutdown allows the company to focus its resources on a single email system.

It looks like Google is currently cleaning up its services and apps. So, in addition to Inbox, Google will terminate Google Allo on March 12, 2019, URL shortener goo.gl on March 30, 2019, and social network Google+ on April 2, 2019. Sorry for the disappearance of Inbox by Gmail, or did you switch to Gmail without any problems? Share your views in the comments.
