XDA Developers, Google is currently testing a new option for Google Maps in India. Adds feature to section“Stay Safer” (“Stay safe” French) and travelers make sure they don’t deviate from their course. It is unknown whether this option will be available to the rest of the world later on.
How will Google Maps notify you when your taxi deviates from the road?
To enable this option, you have to check the “Be safer” box and “get alert in case of deviation”. If your taxi or driver deviates 500 meters from the planned route Via the application, you will receive an alert on your smartphone. Sometimes, taking advantage of the naivety and ignorance of some tourists’ places, taxi drivers take detours and grab a few more tickets.
Obviously, this feature does not only concern taxi users. It can be very convenient to enable the option if you are driving your own car, walking or biking. Likewise, the option can help transit passengers understand if they’ve taken the wrong subway or the wrong bus.
