Google has worked year after year to improve the formula offered by Google Docs, its software for creating and editing text documents. For example, since 2018, Google Docs has included a grammar checker in addition to the usual spell checker. In 2019, the Mountain View firm even added a real-time word counter to help you track your progress.
However, the American company recently announced that a brand new tool is coming to Google Docs. This time it’s not about monitoring and correcting your grammar, inflections or spelling, improve your writing style instead. Embodied in the new purple underlines, Google will offer different things depending on the situation through this new functionality. In particular, the user may be invited to:
- adopt other formulations
- Use active voice instead of passive
- Make sentence structure simpler and more concise
- use more inclusive vocabulary/language
- Avoiding potentially inappropriate, colloquial or offensive/discriminatory words

Of course, the user will be free to accept or reject Google’s suggestions, the company says that this tool is only “Improve your writing style and produce documents that are more dynamic, clear, inclusive and concise”. attention this tool will be enabled by default and that it will be possible to manage it from the Tools menu.
Be careful though Google underlines that this feature will not be accessible to everyone.. Only users of certain paid Google WorkSpace plans will be able to benefit from this. More specifically, these are the following subscriptions: Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Education Plus. In other words, Starters subscriptions like free plans will not have this new feature. According to Google, this tool will be distributed gradually between March 31 and April 14, 2022.
