The Google Pixel and Pixel XL will come with many new features, including a new Phone app. And the good news is that Google Dialer 5.1 APK file is available to download and you can install it on your phone even if you are not running Android 7.1 Nougat yet.
While waiting for the Android 7.1 Nexus update to arrive, those in a hurry have already removed the new Google Dialer 5.1 app from the Google Pixel system image. A version 5.1 that marks the arrival of a new, more colorful interface with some graphical modifications. The search interface, for example, gains large buttons reminiscent of those on iOS. The blue becomes darker and the search icon changes from green to fuchsia pink.
We also note that the traditional ringing tone used to answer calls has disappeared. Now you have to swipe up to turn it on and swipe down to turn it off.
It’s not a big revolution for the Android Phone app, which has been updated to celebrate the arrival of version 7.1 of Google’s operating system and the American giant’s next two phones. But innovations are welcome and overall ergonomics seems to have improved.
Note that Google Pixel users have a shortcut to add contacts without having to open the app. Others will also be able to take advantage of this feature provided they use the alternative Android launcher Action Launcher that offers this feature.
The APK file is already downloadable. Of course it’s possible that it won’t work 100% and some bugs will appear, but it’s still best to try to find out. Note that it works great on Nexus 5X and 6P based on initial feedback. Comments posted on Android Police.
