Unlike VPNs, Private Browsing does not offer the benefit of anonymity on the Internet, but provides some privacy by disabling browsing history and cookies. It also has another benefit, such as bypassing certain restrictions of paid websites and web apps that rely on the detection of cookies to block access to their content. These sites caused concern after Google announced plans to fix a flaw in Chrome’s incognito mode. This was actually used for Identify Internet users who activate this mode.
Chrome: Incognito mode improvements are ineffective
Chrome 76 introduced a fix for private browsing flaws. Just a few weeks after the update, researchers have uncovered two methods to circumvent the measures implemented by Google. The first is to analyze the size of an API called Filesystem. Depending on whether you switch from Normal browsing to Incognito mode, its size is not the same. It is actually different from an average weight. From 120 MB to 2 GB. Thanks to a special script developed by researcher Vikas Mishra, it is possible to keep track of these important changes in volume and therefore know when this mod is enabled or not.
A second method is equally effective in detecting the activation of Incognito mode in Google Chrome. Quite similar to the first, but more Filesystem API write speed. This is really much higher when private browsing is enabled. Once again, a comparative script is enough to purge Internet users who have activated this mod. As a result, websites using Paywall or paid access lock have nothing to fear while waiting for new patches.
