Facebook hack: 20 million French people’s personal data exposed

Facebook

France has 40 million active users. According to a report by BFM Business, half of the users were affected by this attack. The data includes information on 533 million users from 106 countriesThese were discovered by Alon Gal, technical director at cybercrime intelligence firm Hudson Rock.

Alon Gal said Saturday that the database appeared to be identical to the Facebook-linked phone numbers that have been floating around hacker circles since January and whose existence was first reported by our colleagues at Motherboard.

Numbers of 20 million French people are available on the internet

The database, published on a hacking forum, contains personal data of hundreds of millions of Facebook users worldwide. Exactly 19,848,559 people will be affected in FranceIt appears that all the data collected is published free of charge on the forum, allowing anyone to obtain this data without paying any fee.

Databases are initially sold for high prices in private sales and then sold for progressively lower prices, but it is rare for them to eventually be offered for free on hack forums. Therefore, everyone can use this data for their own account.. Malicious actors can then launch attacks against victims of the leak. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see that in the coming months. Increase in phishing attacks using email addresses or text message phishing (SMS phishing).

This is not the first time such a breach has been detected, as Facebook confirmed in September 2019 that 419 million numbers had been leaked. This was followed by the leak of 267 million numbers in December. At this point, Gal believes there is little Facebook can do as the data continues to flowApart from warning users to be careful of phishing or scams that use their personal data.
