While Chrome is undoubtedly one of the best browsers on Android, it is not without its flaws. One of its biggest shortcomings compared to the desktop version is the single page restriction. Of course, you can open hundreds of tabs if you want, but you cannot split them into different windows.
It’s an issue that Google recently fixed. According to information obtained by Chrome Unboxed, the Mountain View company is currently rolling out a new update for Chrome 108 that enables the “Instant Switcher” function. The latter, launched in beta last year, provides access to an option in the settings called “Manage windows” or “window management”.
It is possible to open multiple Chrome windows on Android
As you can see from the screenshots above, this new settings tab allows you to view active instances of Chrome and create a new one. When you select this option, the screen splits in half, displaying both samples simultaneously; just like it’s possible to have two Chrome windows on one PC.
Therefore, in the overview, Chrome appears with two different cards that can be selected according to your full-screen rendering needs. It’s also possible to optionally change the size of each window and have two different Google accounts synced in each. The same goes for history and even favorites.
Note that at the time of this writing we have not yet been able to test the functionality. The update may not be available in France yet and we will have to wait a few more days for it to arrive on our smartphones.
