Following the global release of Android 7.0 Nougat in August, Google announced that a number of new updates are coming soon. Lately Android 7.1.2 Nougat Released in beta and available to Nexus and Pixel owners worldwide from April 3rd. On January 30, Google released Android 7.1.2 Nougat as a limited beta for certain devices. Users have been testing it for two months and now we are ready for further improvement. The second developer preview was released on March 20 and now the official release is here.

Which Devices Can Get Android 7.1.2 Nougat

Of course all Android smartphones and tablets should eventually get the latest version of Android. At least the newest devices. For now, this is limited to Nexus and Pixel users as it is still in beta form.

Android 7.1.2 Nougat version is available for Google Pixel and Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player and Pixel C. All devices will see updates from April 3rd and beyond. Older devices like Nexus 5 or Nexus 6 are not included. Android 7.1.1 may be the end of the road for them. They will still receive security patches every month though.

Most people are still content to just have Nougat, but Nexus and Pixel devices always get the latest version first. With Android O betas rolling out and more details coming in at Google I/O, this is the latest software available for the near future.

What’s New in Android 7.1.2 Nougat

We knew Google had a few bugs to fix, and that’s exactly what you can expect when Android 7.1. The latest April security patches are also included.

The official blog states that this is “an incremental maintenance release focused on improvements, so it includes a number of bug fixes and optimizations, as well as few improvements for operators and users.”

This basically means that nothing important will be included except for a few minor tweaks. So far, we’re seeing some fingerprint scanner gestures for the Nexus 5X and 6P, like swiping for notifications and other stuff. Not to mention the many bug fixes for the Pixel and Pixel XL. Apart from these, Pixel C has new Pixel Launcher and features as well as some bug fixes. The Pixel C doesn’t have a new multitasking menu, new onscreen buttons, and app tray button. Just swipe up.

Tablets will be greatly enhanced with Android 7.1.2 Nougat. In Pixel C, we have a new multi-window mode with easy-to-see windows. Press and hold to swipe each window (now shaded) left or right to multitask in split-screen and run two apps at the same time.

How to Buy Now

It was only available on the beta channel until version 7.1.2 on April 3. However, it is now officially available for a number of devices. We’re seeing over-the-air updates for the Pixel and Pixel XL and Pixel C tablet. All other devices can wait for the over-the-air update or download it manually.
