Passwords will soon replace passwords and becomes the standard for authentication. This technology associates a physical device with your credentials and allows you to insert a USB key into your computer, for example, to connect to a website. The current mobile operating system does not yet support it because Fundamental changes are needed in source codes previously. Dashlane password manager announces support for native passkeys from Android 14 on its site.
According to them, “Users will be able to simply generate a passkey instead of entering a password. The fingerprint binds the authentication to the device user, which prevents anyone else from creating and using passkeys on that device.” The publisher posted a video on Twitter to demonstrate how simple the process would be.
With Android 14, third-party password managers will support passkeys
Dashlane will be the first admin to support passkeys, but there’s no doubt that LastPass and other 1Pass competitors will do the same, as everyone agrees that “passkeys are phishing resistant and represent the future of online authentication.” They will change passwords in a safer and more convenient way. Sites and platforms that will accept this identification technique should proliferate in the coming weeks and months, and that’s a good thing.
