We’re seeing complaints about the keyboard sensitivity issues, capitalization issuesautocorrect or problems with the keyboard when horizontal. We’ll help you fix the issues listed below or explain the settings you can change to avoid them.
Galaxy S9 Keyboard Sensitivity Issues or Dead Spots
Early in the launch of the Galaxy S9 and S9+, owners started complaining about touchscreen issues. Basically, some users were experiencing sensitivity issues or dead spots on the screen. As a result, some letters did not appear when typing. We only saw a few complaints about it and it quickly disappeared.
However, when you install a Galaxy S9 screen protector, some of these sensitivity issues will return. Not all windows have the same curve and you may encounter dead spots where faucets are not recognized. Whatever your Galaxy S9 touchscreen sensitivity issue is, here’s how to fix it.
Simply go and open augmented. Turn the switch to the ON position and you are ready. This should fix most touchscreen sensitivity issues. If you are still experiencing dead spots, you may need a new device.
Galaxy S9 Keyboard Not Capitalizing
Another issue we’ve been hearing about on the Galaxy S8, Note 8, and Galaxy S9 keyboards is with capitalization. Basically, Samsung’s keyboard doesn’t always capitalize words or names, especially at the beginning of a sentence. Or, it will be automatically corrected to lowercase which is annoying.
By default, the keyboard should automatically capitalize the first word of any sentence. So, first of all, make sure you don’t turn off the auto-capitalization feature. Go to the list of options and look. Option 3 is what you are looking for as shown below.
If you still have problems with capitalization, you can try turning off autocorrect or clearing the cache on your keyboard, which we will explain below. Some users suggested installing a new keyboard from the Google Play Store. Then go to Settings and change phone to use this new keyboard, then switch back to Samsung’s keyboard. This gives it a fresh start and fixes most minor issues.
Galaxy S9 Keyboard Not Appearing at All
It seems the Galaxy S9 keyboard sometimes doesn’t show up at all and we’ve seen similar complaints from the Galaxy Note 8 owner. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix this in settings. It’s basically a software bug and we have two steps to fix it.
For almost all keyboard problems, your first step is to restart the phone quickly. Hold down the power button and press the button. The keyboard should return to full working order when the phone restarts.
Then try clearing the cache of the Samsung keyboard app if the keyboard is still missing. This is actually easier than it looks. Scroll until you find Now, tap on it and select . You can also click on it, then . Know that this will delete your saved dictionary.
Galaxy S9 Keyboard Lag
We’re seeing a few complaints about keyboard lag, so we recommend only downloading Google’s Gboard keyboard. If your Galaxy S9 keyboard can’t keep up with your fast typing speed and seems to lag, you know what we mean. Usually this fixes itself, but if not, try our trick below.
Go in and scroll to the bottom. Now, select it and then tap the option as well. This will undo any changes you have made to the keyboard. So while it might screw up some of the settings we described above, it will fix the annoying lag.
This step can potentially fix any Galaxy S9 keyboard issues you are facing. Know that it deletes most changes or customizations at once.
Galaxy S9 Auto-Correct Issues
Samsung’s keyboard learns from your typing habits over time and gradually becomes more accurate when it comes to autocorrect or word predictions. However, we all know that sometimes that doesn’t happen at all. In fact, most of the time autocorrect messes up a perfectly normal word or phrase, which is very frustrating. Try typing “to/too”, “home” or “come”; you can get “ball”, “hone” and “cone” instead. This is the autocorrect feature failing, here’s how to fix it.
Simply turn off autocorrect or change the settings shown above. Go back to your keyboard settings and toggle auto-spelling and auto-replace by following the instructions we mentioned earlier. When you turn this off, the phone will not automatically replace words and shuffle your sentences.
Keyboard Predictions Not Appearing
But sometimes these predictions and automatic corrections don’t appear on your screen at all. It’s like the keyboard forgot it had a job. If you don’t see these helpful predictions, here’s how to fix it. This will also solve the problem of having an awkward double space in your sentence after a guess.
Go back and look at the list of settings. Make sure it’s enabled and try turning it off and on again. Sometimes it just gets stuck. You turned off autoreplace in our last steps, but make sure you don’t uncheck predictive text at the same time.
Finally, you will also see in this menu that automatically inserts a space after adding a word using predictive text. When you select a predicted word or press the spacebar to use the highlighted word, the software inserts a space for you. Then, out of habit, you added a space to yourself. This is where the double space comes from.
Disable auto-range or turn off predictive text entirely. Choose the best for you.
Galaxy S9 Keyboard Sounds
Keyboard sounds are helpful confirmation that you have pressed the desired button. Most people love this feature or turn it off instantly. If you expected keyboard sounds but they’re missing, here’s how to turn them back on. Additionally, follow these steps to turn off keyboard sounds so that your phone doesn’t make too much noise and bother people around you.
For this step, we go to the general phone settings, not the keyboard settings. Pull down the notification bar and tap the gear-shaped settings button. Next, go to and scroll down. Make sure it’s not turned off. Turn the switch on and your keyboard sounds should come back. Or do everyone a favor and turn them off. Turn off touch sounds, screen lock sounds and keypad sounds while you’re here. All unnecessary.
Another possible reason for this is if your phone is in silent mode. Yes, it also gets rid of keyboard sounds. Press the volume up button and make sure your Galaxy S9 is not in silent mode or vibrate only mode.
Galaxy S9 Keyboard Typing or Scrolling Issues
If you’re having random issues in general or having trouble typing on the Galaxy S9, there are a few things we can try. First, make sure swipe or gesture typing is turned on in your keyboard settings.
But the biggest issue with the Galaxy S9 screen or keyboard and typing is caused by your screen protector. Do you have a screen protector on your phone? Some don’t fit properly thanks to the curved screen. As a result, some swipes or taps are not recorded because the curve does not match your phone.
