What Happens When You Hide Apps On Android?

To hide an app, simply remove the app icon from your phone. It does not uninstall the app or delete your data in the app.

Usually the app is hidden from the app drawer which only shows all installed apps. If you have added the app icon to the home screen, in some cases you have to manually remove it from the home screen. Once hidden, you won’t be able to see the app either in the app drawer or on the home screen.

Be careful, hiding an app doesn’t stop its notifications. You will continue to receive notifications from the hidden app. In a nutshell, only the app icon is hidden so no one can see it’s installed on your phone.

Not Everything Is Hidden

Although the above launchers help you hide apps on Android, they are only hidden from the app drawer. If you go to Settings > Apps, you can still see hidden apps. As of now, there is no way to uninstall apps from the Apps section in Settings without uninstalling the app.

However, hardly anyone checks this section to see installed apps. That’s why launcher apps are a great way to hide apps on Android phones.
