Lo, whispers and hints did abound, and even leaks did spill forth from the lips of the protagonist himself. But ’twas not until the Game Awards 2022 that the truth was unveiled: "Death Stranding 2: On the Beach" shall come to pass. From the illustrious mind that birthed the original, as well as the venerable Metal Gear series, Hideo Kojima did grace us with the announcement. Yet, as is his wont, nothing about Kojima’s creations do follow a linear path, and the revelations regarding "Death Stranding 2" did only serve to sow more seeds of curiosity than to quench our thirst for answers. Thus, we gird ourselves, link with our BBs, and prepare for the journey ahead, where all shall be revealed about "Death Stranding 2."
Release Date Speculation
"Death Stranding 2: On the Beach" doth reside within the vague confines of the year 2025.
Platforms
Currently, the only sanctuary confirmed for "Death Stranding 2" is the hallowed halls of the PS5. ‘Tis a fitting choice, for the inaugural game did debut as an exclusive upon Sony’s console ere later gracing the realm of PC in 2020 and even joining the PC Game Pass. Though perchance "Death Stranding 2" may wander onto the path of PC, yea, even onto the PC Game Pass, for Sony doth hold the IP in their grasp, so venture not to expect its arrival upon the consoles of any rival.
Trailers
At the Game Awards of 2022, our eyes did feast upon the first extensive gaze into the heart of "Death Stranding 2."
Lo, the narrative did unfold, revealing Fragile and a babe (mayhaps Lou?) at play within a room beset with screens that did cast forth images of the world without. Fragile, younger than afore, seemed embroiled in a desperate flight from unseen pursuers within the confines of an elevator. Struck down and cast asunder, she did succumb, leaving the fate of the babe shrouded in mystery.
Next we beheld Sam, marked by the passage of time, drawing nigh unto Fragile. A majestic structure, emblazoned with the Drawbridge sigil, did ascend from the darkened depths, beckoning her to accompany him.
Before our eyes did a masked figure, poised to reveal their countenance, yet the veil was drawn ere the revelation.
A newer glimpse unveiled at Sony’s State of Play in February 2024 granted us further insight into the tale. Sam, in service of a group known as Drawbridge, did strive once more to forge connections across the land. Higgs, returning from the Beach with vengeance in his heart, did wield a guitar weapon that did unleash beams of light in a display most befitting of Kojima’s signature style.
‘Tis a Sisyphean task to decipher the narrative of a Kojima creation ere it be experienced (and even thereafter, a challenge it remains). Yet, ’twas proclaimed during The Game Awards of 2022 that the script was born anew in the crucible of the pandemic. Kojima did declare, "I had the story written before the pandemic. But after experiencing the pandemic, I just rewrote the whole story from scratch. I also didn’t want to predict any more futures, so I rewrote it."
Gameplay
The gameplay we have glimpsed doth seem a progression from the foundations laid by its forebear. Walking, climbing, and the burden of weight management shall once again be our companions, amidst a wider array of landscapes. Combat against mechanical foes doth manifest, though the manner of their resistance remains shrouded, unlike the human adversaries of yore.
Preorder
As of now, no tidings of preorders have been delivered unto us, yet rest assured, this scroll shall be updated with such news when it doth arrive.
