In a market saturated with mundane earbud designs, I stumbled upon the boAt earbuds with a striking transparent space-themed aesthetic. Clad in Cosmic Black, these earbuds boast a captivating translucent case lid.
Upon opening the case, the earbuds reveal their transparent middle bodies, accompanied by twinkling lights. Transparency in design is tricky to execute, as the inner workings can often appear unattractive. However, boAt has skillfully incorporated a subtle translucent coating, evoking imagery of a Space Shuttle design. Yet, the material used may feel cheap and subpar, a compromise one must make for the price point.
While not flawless, the case emits creaks when compressed, a telltale sign of the inexpensive materials utilized. Furthermore, the case shows signs of wear after just a couple of weeks of use. Despite these shortcomings, the affordability of the earbuds mitigates the complaints.
The design philosophy of boAt, reminiscent of Nothing’s transparent approach, offers a fresh take on the trend. It heeds the age-old advice of "Be inspired but don’t copy."
Features That Transcend Gimmickry (Mostly)
The modern earbuds market has witnessed a rapid evolution, rendering features such as ANC, customizable EQ, and Spatial Audio standard even in sub-Rs 2,500 products. The boAt Nirvana Space exemplifies this trend, integrating these features along with Spatial Audio.
While the Spatial Audio may not astound, its presence at this price range is commendable. The touch controls are highly responsive, facilitating easy transitions between Ambient and ANC modes.
With an ANC rating of 32db, the boAt Nirvana Space outperforms competitors boasting 42db or higher ANC. In comparisons with CMF Buds and Realme Buds T310, the boAt earbuds shine. The ANC functionality transcends the gimmicky realm, standing as a standout feature in this segment.
Notably, the Multipoint Connection functionality operates seamlessly, with near-instant switching – setting a new standard in the segment. The customizable EQ, while a useful feature, may not alleviate the overpowering bass observed in similar products. Nevertheless, the Adaptive EQ feature brings a welcome novelty to this price bracket, enhancing the sound output marginally.
Abundant Battery Life to Support its Prowess
The boAt Nirvana Space excels in the battery life department. Housing a 600mAh battery in the case, each earbud boasts a 35mAh unit. With a single charge, the earbuds can sustain around 4.5 to 5 hours of usage.
When coupled with the case, the earbuds can endure 4 to 5 days without needing a recharge – a remarkable feat. The earbuds’ comfortable fit enabled prolonged usage without discomfort or the need for adjustment.
Flaws, though Bearable and Reasonable
The companion app emerges as the primary drawback of the otherwise stellar boAt Nirvana Space. Despite its pleasing aesthetics, the user experience falters, often leading to inadvertent adjustments of the Equalizer – a considerable inconvenience.
Additionally, the microphone quality falls short, despite featuring a four-mic setup tuned by AI-ENx. While functional, the clarity leaves much to be desired, resulting in complaints about audio clarity during calls or gaming sessions.
Considering the Rs 2,499 price tag, these issues appear less bothersome. The usual sale price of around Rs 2,200 on Amazon further sweetens the deal. While the app experience and audio quality may be superior in the CMF Buds, the boAt Nirvana Space emerges as a well-rounded choice, offering a balanced blend of features at an attractive price point.
