Bart Allenalso known as Impulse and Kid Flash, is a fun, spontaneous and playful hero. Even though he is the most fun member of the Allen family, Bert needed to mature and transform. From an impulsive young speedster, now the new Flash needs to become someone worthy of the mantle he inherited.
Bart Allen first adopts the codename “Impulse”, a name that lived up to his reputation as an impulsive and reckless character. Later, Allen begins to identify himself with the pseudonym “Kid Flash”. Later, as a hero from the future, Bart takes his place as the new Flash, from the future.
Along the way, Bart had to face reality, in which his impetuous behavior ended up putting others at risk. The culmination of this process occurred in a tragic event. As a result of his own behavior, the young hero had to face situations that required sacrifices from which he would never be able to fully recover.
Bart is then forced to recognize the effects his actions have on others. And this happens when another speedster, Johnny Quick, dies in battle. From that moment on, the impulsive and spontaneous boy gives way to a hero capable of arousing the respect and admiration of others.
Impulse is forced to mature
As Uncle Ben used to say: “With great power comes great responsibility“, and Bart Allen is forced to acknowledge this.
The victory over Savitar comes at a high price – Johnny Quick’s life. This fact leads Bart to understand what truly makes a hero. Allen discovers that he needs to make sacrifices, dedicate himself and develop the ability to understand when it’s time to play around and when to take things more seriously.
Shocked to realize that if it weren’t for his classmate’s sacrifice he would be alone in the 20th century, Allen finally adopts a more serious attitude. But despite the change that this sad event brought to Allen, the young man found the balance between his extroverted personality and the posture he must demonstrate in certain situations. Proof of this is that, in “Impulse #12”, during a dance at his school, he has fun while playing a song.
By learning to differentiate which situations require a more cautious attitude, Bart is able to move forward and experience fun moments with his mentor Max Mercury and his cousin Jenni.
Throughout his life, Bart has had to face tragedies and go through incredibly difficult times. These situations shaped him, teaching the irresponsible young man the importance of teamwork and how to adopt a more cautious approach.
Still, Allen managed to stay true to his fun personality. In this way, Impulse evolves to the point of becoming the best version of Flash.
