If you’ve ever played “Pokémon” on your Game Boy, you know that it’s normal to develop an affection for the Pokémon you capture along your journey.
The amount of time and experiences shared between the player and their adorable Pokémon is worth remembering forever. In this sense, recently, a Reddit user (totallylegitnesss) went to revisit his precious Pokémon on his GameBoy and got an unpleasant surprise.
For those who don’t know, the first versions of “Pokémon” were released for Game Boy in four editions, all in cartridge format. The editions were: Red, Blue, Green and Yellow.
The cartridges had the ability to save your game process, thanks to an internal battery. Given this, a recurring problem arose: the battery would run out and it would be necessary to replace it with another one to continue playing.
However, unfortunately, when the battery was changed, the game progress file was lost, which left many fans disappointed.
Game Boy battery takes 25 years to run out
Unfortunately, the user fell victim to the inevitable fate that awaited the battery of his “Pokémon” cartridge, which had run out after a long period of 25 years.
The moment he tried to play again, he was faced with the fact that his Game Boy’s battery had died, resulting in the loss of his beloved Blastoise, affectionately named Mizukame.
Still, the player decided to replace the battery and start a new journey, but his beloved Pokémon, gathered over so many years, will remain only in his memories.
In his Reddit post, he expressed:
“It finally happened. My Pokémon Blue’s battery lasted 25 years. I’ll catch you next time, Mizukame.”
Even though this information is unfortunate, it serves as a reminder for you to check if your Game Boy’s battery is still working. Who knows, maybe you’ll be able to find your favorite Pokémon on your cartridge again.
