Officially released in 2012, “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” (“CS:GO”) remains a highly appreciated game among enthusiasts of the action-adventure genre.

Over the more than ten years since its release, “CS:GO” has remained in perfect condition, requiring few changes. However, when it comes to improvements, updates usually focus on the game’s weapons, which occasionally receive evolutions.

Overall, the game offers a relaxed and discussion-free experience, unless the subject is one specific topic: the rule regarding money available during overtime.

In this sense, some controversies may arise, since not all players agree with this rule. However, it is important to note that it does not apply to all matches, but only to some recognized ones.

But, after all, what’s up with this rule?

The standard overtime format in CS:GO consists of a best-of-six round, which is split into two halves. At the start of each half, each player is given 10,000 in starting cash, which is intended to ensure they can purchase weapons in at least two of the three rounds in each half.

However, this rule has been the subject of criticism and heated debate in the community. Many players argue that the 10,000 cash amount is insufficient, as it may not be enough to buy weapons in a team’s third round if things don’t go well in the first two.

Those who support a review of this rule argue that it unbalances the game. Teams that struggle in the first two rounds may be at a financial disadvantage, limiting their tactical options and chances of success in the third round. This results in a perception of unfairness and a lack of competitive balance.

Jason Baker, creator of this rule, argues as follows:

“Overtimes have 10k cash because I made a mistake when writing the config. I played a lot of 1v1 with my brother at home. One day I made a mistake on my server and set the cash to 10k instead of 16k. Then I knew that you couldn’t buy three AWPs if you died twice.”

Despite these criticisms, few changes have been made to date to address this issue. It is important to note that making decisions about changing the rules of a competitive game is not an easy task.

Developers and tournament organizers need to carefully consider the implications of such changes to ensure the game remains balanced.
