George RR Martin’s new addiction: anime conquers the author of ‘Game of Thrones’

The writer George RR Martin, known for being responsible for ‘Game of Thrones’ (Got), one of the most successful works of recent years, has a habit of communicating with his fans through his blog, titled “This is not a blog”.

From time to time, he shares recommendations for reading, music or movies he liked. His most recent recommendation is a Netflix anime that left him very impressed.

In addition to Martin, another well-known name was enchanted by the anime and commented on it recently, the renowned developer of games Hideo Kojima.

‘GoT’ Creator’s Anime Recommendation

The creator of ‘GoT’ begins his opinion by talking about the different options present on TV today, which makes it difficult to follow the various current works.

“There is so much on television nowadays, in the streaming era, that it is difficult to keep up with it all. Gone are the days when we only had three channels and knew very well what was on each of them every night of the week. But one thing is still the same, however. It’s always a joy to stumble upon a show you’ve never seen before, a great show that simply surprises you, that sinks its claws into you and doesn’t let go,” wrote RR Martin.

The work that completely captivated the writer is ‘Blue Eye Samurai’, an anime from Netflix which debuted on the platform in November 2023 and left you hooked.

The creator of ‘GoT’ remains enthusiastic about when he discovered and started watching the animated series with his partner.

“I barely know where to start. When Parris [parceira do autor] and I started watching, we couldn’t stop. We finished it all in three nights and I’m already hungry for season two. They are doing incredible things with animation nowadays, as we have seen in series like ‘Love’, Death and Robots’… And this comment comes from a person who grew up with classic Disney animations […] Still, ‘Blue Eye Samurai’ has the most wonderful art I’ve ever seen”, praises the writer.

The author spared no adjectives when describing his new favorite anime as: “violent, visceral, sexy (and a little eccentric in some aspects), with incredible action sequences and a cast of well-developed, colorful, complex and realistic characters. Imperfect heroes, villains that go beyond animated stereotypes.”

If you are curious to know more about the story of ‘Blue Eye Samurai’, which has already been renewed for a second seasonknow that the anime takes place during the Edo period of Japan, in the 17th century.
