
A few months before the release of the iPhone 16 series, the information we have received regarding the technical features of the four expected smartphones is becoming clear. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the most famous names when discussing future Apple products, tells us more about the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery. According to supply chain sources, battery cells will have higher energy density (Wh/kg).
This can happen in two ways for the autonomy of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. It can either be larger with equal battery capacity or equal with lower battery capacity. Considering that the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to be significantly larger than the iPhone 15 Pro Max, it seems unlikely that Apple will pack a smaller battery into its device. Therefore, we can be optimistic that we will see a significant gain in autonomy with the next model.
Do all iPhone 17s have a more efficient battery?
Increasing the energy density of battery cells causes the temperature to increase. To protect the battery, Apple would rely on a stainless steel casing instead of aluminum. This material is certainly not the most suitable for dissipating heat, but it is more durable and less susceptible to corrosion phenomena.
Ming-Chi Kuo also claims that switching to a stainless steel battery case could enable an iPhone design that makes battery replacement easier. Apple therefore anticipates the future requirements of the European Union in this area: smartphone batteries should be easy to replace by 2027.
This year, only the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to have a more energy-dense battery with a stainless steel casing. If the results are convincing, all iPhone 17 models should benefit from this in 2025. Suffice it to say that we are looking forward to the battery life and heating tests of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which we can conduct next September.
