Documentary shows the terrifying part inside Nickelodeon

A Nickelodeon is recognized for its enchanting and captivating programming, which has been a source of entertainment for children around the world over the years.

However, behind this colorful and fun world, some protagonists of children’s programs had to face dark and challenging situations.

In view of this, Discovery is producing the documentary series ‘Quiet on Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV’, which in translation would be ‘Silence on Set: The Dark Side of Children’s TV’.

As the name suggests, Discovery explores the negative aspects of Nickelodeon under Dan Schneider.

Schneider is recognized for being a controversial figure who created several hit teen series, including ‘iCarly’, ‘Sam and Cat’, and ‘Brilliant Victoria’, while also being involved in allegations of abuse towards his actresses and co-workers.

He served as a producer and writer for Nickelodeon on several works between 1994 and 2018, until details of his alleged inappropriate conduct with Nickelodeon employees came to light, although he partially denied the allegations.

Reports indicate suspicious behavior by Schneider

In 2018, initial reports from Deadline indicated that Schneider would be leaving Nickelodeon, accompanied by allegations of misconduct with employees, including his “temper” and Twitter posts.

On his social network, he used to share photos of the feet of actresses who worked with him, something quite strange. In 2021, it was reported that Schneider had verbally abused his colleagues.

Nickelodeon’s own internal investigation highlighted his ‘hot temper and angry emails’. However, the investigation found no evidence of sexual misconduct.

Schneider has always defended her stance, but in August 2022, Insider reported allegations of gender discrimination, suggesting that Schneider had requested “massages” from female colleagues.

However, producers at Nickelodeon denied that Schneider had ‘sexualized’ scenes on his shows.

Additionally, actress Alexa Nikolas, from ‘Zoey 101’, revealed that she didn’t trust being in his presence, while Jennette McCurdy, from ‘Sam and Cat’, commented on his personality during filming.

In his book, ‘I’m Glad My Mother Died’, McCurdy detailed uncomfortable experiences with Schneider, including alleged foot massages, photographs in swimwear and pressure to drink despite being underage.

McCurdy refused US$300,000 from Nickelodeon, which would be almost R$1.5 million according to the current quote, to keep silent about the producer’s alleged abuses.

Although Schneider was not involved in the ‘iCarly’ reunion, she was credited as a co-creator of the show. He vehemently denies all allegations.

The four-episode miniseries, ‘Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV,’ premieres March 17 on Discovery and Max, promising to explore these controversial events. Check out the trailer:
