Nintendo filed a patent on July 12, 2021, detailing a brand new dock for its Switch. but the second one was only made public on April 2, 2024. In the document, Nintendo reveals a redesigned dock that uses code from the Nintendo Switch, but brings some new features that may please gamers.

If the appearance is almost the same, we find the main change inside: new connection management. The hub where we find all the HDMI or USB ports it was now placed in the middle of the pier instead of one of its sides. But this is not the most interesting change.

With a design like this, you can choose which side to plug your cables into; This will make setting up the Switch in your living room much easier. Another version presented in the same patent goes even further : The entire back of the dock can be rotated to swap side ports.

Frankly, the publication and application process of this patent leads us to believe that this idea could be integrated into the next Switch 2, which will be released in the coming months. But keep in mind that such patents rarely turn into real products; so it may well be that the Switch 2 dock will be radically different after all.
