If you are a PlayStation or Xbox gamer who enjoys online FPS games, you may have already heard of Cronus Zen. If this is not the case, this is a USB adapter that allows you to plug any controller into a console or PC. Nothing really alarming so far. However, Cronus Zen is rarely used in this context.
Cronus Zen, a popular accessory among cheaters
Indeed, the device is especially popular among a certain segment of gamers due to a completely different functionality: ability to program custom scripts or macros (arbitrarily executable sequences of events, such as keyboard inputs and clicks) to gain unfair advantages in the game.
Cronus Zen offers dozens and dozens of macros in today’s most popular games with its Game Packs. Call of Duty: Warzone, Apex Legends, Fortnite Or Siege of Rainbow Six For example. Concretely, these macros clearly present themselves as cheats. For example, players can completely cancel their weapon’s recoil, take advantage of an additional Aim Assist, integrate Rapid Fire (rapid fire) or Drop Shot (the command that allows you to shoot and jump simultaneously while keeping the target in sight).
In his statement, Cronus urges players who want to continue using Zen not to download this update. The company also adds that the patch will be automatically installed when the console is in Rest mode. For those who have already downloaded the firmware, there is nothing more to do. Cronus has no information about a possible fix. From our perspective, we would like to remind you that it is important to quickly download software updates for your console for security and performance reasons. As a reminder, Sony isn’t the first to declare war on unofficial accessories. In November 2023, Microsoft banned numerous unofficial controllers and accessories from Xbox consoles.
