We’ve known for a few months that the iPhone 15 will bring some innovation, but that will make all the difference. Indeed, for the first time in smartphone history, the next iteration will be without physical buttons. More specifically, they are the Pro and Pro Max models (or Ultra, as the case may be) that will combine two traditional volume buttons to give you a single capacitive button.
In other words, this means that the button in question can sense and react accordingly to the level of pressure applied by the user, rather than a single action with a single button. And precisely, this new technology expands the field of possibilities, as a recent leak on the MacRumors forums shows.
The new buttons of the iPhone 15 Pro will be a small revolution
According to the leak, already at the source of the actual leaks on the iPhone 14, Apple would also equip its next high-end smartphones with a new low-energy microprocessor. The latter will replace the phones’ current low-power mode, which specifically allows the Find function to be kept active for 24 hours on an empty battery or even 5 hours for contactless payment.
So this new microprocessor will perform the same tasks and will also be responsible for managing data transfers in Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and processing data from capacitive buttons as you will understand. Therefore, as with the Locate function, it will be possible to use these buttons when the battery is empty and the iPhone is turned off.
According to the leak, two button models are currently being tested by Apple: one where the volume changes more or less quickly depending on the pressure applied, and another where it’s possible to slide over to achieve the same result. It is still difficult to say which model will reach the final version of the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
