Why I Bought the iPhone 6s Plus from AT&T

Apple and its partners put the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus up for sale, and I immediately ordered the iPhone 6s Plus with AT&T service to serve as my primary phone. There are more options than ever before when it comes to buying a new phone, and in this post I’ll explain why I made that choice.

Specifically, I purchased the Space Gray iPhone 6s Plus with 128GB storage from AT&T. I will buy AppleCare+ to go with it. The full retail price of this version of the iPhone 6s Plus is $949, ​​but I chose the AT&T Next 12 plan to keep my monthly discount and easily upgrade to the iPhone 7 when it launches next year.

I am not a typical smartphone buyer as I use multiple devices that some manufacturers lend. I usually carry two phones with me at all times so I can stay in touch with my remote team without worrying about running out of battery or a wireless network working. However, the iPhone 6 Plus has been the only phone I’ve ever had at home with me. That phone has served me much better than I expected last year, and I see no reason to go any other way.

There’s a lot to like in the latest flagship Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and LG G4, but I’m so locked into the Apple ecosystem that I can’t use anything but the iPhone as my primary phone. All of my closest relatives use iPhones, except for one brother-in-law who works for Google and uses the company-supplied Nexus 5. Despite my large hands, it took me a while to get used to the iPhone 6 Plus. But after using the iPhone 6 Plus for a few weeks, I found that pretty much everything about the phone was better than its little brother, the iPhone 6. The larger screen makes it easier to get things done on the iPhone 6 Plus, and the battery lasts longer between charges. Last year an iPhone 6 on the Verizon network served as my backup phone. There have been very few instances where I chose to use the iPhone 6 instead of the iPhone 6 Plus.

The features that excite me the most on the iPhone 6s Plus are the improved cameras. For me, the 12MP iSight camera and 5MP FaceTime camera justify the cost of the upgrade. Even though I have plenty of professional cameras on hand, I took some of my best family photos with my iPhone 6 Plus. The cameras on my new iPhone 6s Plus won’t capture the same quality images as my Sony RX100 M4 or Nikon D810, but the iPhone 6s Plus will always be with me and it’s much easier than sharing photos and videos from a phone. from a traditional camera, even with built-in wireless sharing.

I’ve been using the Apple Watch since it was released and it’s lessened a hassle of carrying the iPhone 6 Plus. When I wear the Apple Watch, I no longer have to take the iPhone 6 Plus out of my pocket every time I get an alert. Yes, struggling to get a phone out of my pocket sounds like the biggest problem in the world, but getting my iPhone 6 Plus out of my pocket is really getting old because my phone beeping and buzzing almost constantly.

Although I have at least one service line in each of the four major wireless carriers, I will stick with AT&T as my primary wireless provider as it offers the best coverage and wireless speeds where I live in San Francisco. Every wireless provider has its share of dead zones and areas with slow LTE speeds, but I rarely run into these issues with AT&T. Verizon is almost as good as AT&T in most places I go to regularly, but Verizon’s LTE signals are lost in many businesses and restaurants in my neighborhood that I visit frequently. T-Mobile offers attractively priced wireless plans, but coverage is inconsistent in my neighborhood. My wife uses a T-Mobile iPhone for work and drops calls several times a week.

Last year I went with a silver iPhone 6, but this year I choose the iPhone 6 Plus in Space Gray because I prefer the black bezel around the screen and want it to be compatible with the Space Gray MacBook and iPad Air 2. The Rose Gold color is a bit too soft for my liking but my wife is definitely selling it in the new iPhone 6s colour.
