You can discover the Mistlands update before its official release date by joining the Valheim Public Test Server. Getting into the Valheim Public Test may seem a little daunting at first, as you can’t just dive into the game. But don’t worry; No matter what platform you’re on, Steam or Game Pass, anyone who owns the game can access the Public Test.
If you can’t wait to see what’s new, here’s how to enter the Valheim Test Servers and try the Valheim Mistlands update.
How can you join the Valheim Public Test Server?
Before you take the Valheim Public Test, there are a few things to keep in mind. First of all, note that this is a test aimed at identifying potential problems. In other words, your pre-release Mistlands experience can be a bit of a bumpy ride.
Second, as the developers pointed out in the Mistlands Test Server announcement: Make sure to make a backup before participating in the Public Test! All you have to do is open your Valheim game files and make copies of the ‘worlds’ and ‘characters’ folders.
Finally, you may be wondering how to revert to the ‘normal’ version of Valheim once the Mistlands update is officially released. Follow the same steps as described below for the Steam version, but in the Betas menu select “none” instead of “public beta”. For Game Pass players, click Valheim in the Xbox Insider Hub, select “manage”, then select “exit preview”.
Join Valheim Public Test Server on Steam
To join the Valheim Public Test Server on Steam, you must go to settings and use a code to get the Public Test version of the game. Here’s what you need:
- step one: open the steam app, open the Valheim page and click on the settings icon.
- Second step: click ‘properties’ in the drop down menu.
- step three: Click on the ‘betas’ tab and use the code “yesimadebackups”. You can now select the Public Test version from the menu above.
- step four: Download the Public Test version of Valheim (it starts automatically after the third step).
Join Valheim Public Test Server on Game Pass
To join the Valheim Public Test Server on Game Pass, you must use the Xbox Insider Program. You don’t need to sign up for anything; A Game Pass subscription gives you instant access to the Valheim Test Server. All you have to do is download a separate app from the Microsoft Store. Here is a step-by-step guide:
- Step one: Open Microsoft Store and search for “Xbox Insider Hub” app. Alternatively, open the Xbox Game Pass app, click on your profile (top left corner) and select “Xbox Insider Program” from the drop-down menu. Let the app open Microsoft Store.
- Second step: Download the Xbox Insider app.
- Step three: Open the app and click ‘previews’ on the left. Then click Valheim from the list.
- Step four: Agree to install the Public Test version of Valheim in the popup. Once the download is finished, restart your device before opening the game (this is recommended).
And that’s it. If you open the game, the word ‘Mistlands’ will be displayed in the main menu. Let’s go find hazy new lands!
How to access the Valheim Mistlands test version?
Now that we’ve learned how to join Valheim’s Public Test Server, we’re almost (almost!) ready to enter Mistlands. A few more things to keep in mind: you can enter Mistlands with an existing character, which will undoubtedly save a lot of time, and you can find this new biome in one of your existing worlds.
However, new Mistlands areas can only spawn in unexplored areas. If you’ve already fully explored an existing world, including the empty Mistlands ‘fill’ biome, you’ll need to make a new one.
