Some Android users own Macs and wish they could run a custom piece of OSX software on their Android tablet or smartphone. Solution: The newly updated Parallels Access, which previously only worked on an iPad. It now works on Android phones or tablets and iPhone. This allows Android owners to use their devices to run custom software installed on a Mac via Parallels Access client software, whether they’re in the same room with their Mac or anywhere in the world.

How Parallels Access Works
To get started, sign up with: parallels. This is the company that produces Parallels Desktop, a great piece of software that runs Windows or other operating systems on Mac. Parallel Access It costs $19.99 per year with a one-month free trial.
The subscriber installs the OSX client application on up to five computers. It also runs on a Windows PC. install iOS or Android Apps on an unlimited number of tablets or smartphones. The service also works with Parallels Desktop, so users can run programs installed on a virtual version of OSX or Windows running within Parallels Desktop installed on a Mac.
Parallels Access presents software installed on the computer as iPad apps. Its icons appear in the same Android-style grid that Android users are used to seeing on their phones and tablets.

How to Set Up Parallel Access
Download and run the client software for Windows PC.
Get Mac Client software from Parallels after signing up for the account. Install it, log in to the program and set it to always run. Do this from the Parallels Access client running on OSX by clicking the Advanced tab (see below).
Make sure to check first item and last item in Advanced Settings.
Click on the top and bottom to make sure it always works.

Parallels Access shows all computers connected via client software. Tap a computer to open the computer’s software.
Running the Software on a Remote Mac
Tap the computer running the app you want to control on the Android device, and it will connect as long as the computer runs the client software and is connected to the Internet. A grid of icons will appear. It is very similar to the apps on the Android home screen. Tap a program icon to run it.

The application allows users to add or remove program icons from the application’s screen. Tap the Android menu button and select from the menu.
Tap the Android menu button and then select it in the popup.
Review the list and tap the checkbox to change which programs appear in Parallels Access. If the program has a checkmark in the checkbox, a program icon will appear. Tap to turn programs on or off, and then tap at the bottom right of the dialog.
The iOS version of Parallels Access allows users to access files on a Windows computer through a file explorer. This feature is currently not available in the Android version. Instead, use the previous tip to make sure the Finder appears on the app’s home screen after turning on the Mac. It’s there by default, but check to be sure. Then use Finder to move the files.

If $20 per year seems too much for this app, it’s free team viewercan install and run for free for non-commercial users. LogMeIn now charges more than Parallels Access. None of these solutions present the programs installed on the computer in a nice layout that mimics most Android home screen UIs. This simplicity and elegance make the program’s low price a good value. Now I wish they’d made a ChromeOS version of the client software.
