Pokemon Go Kartana Counters
Kartana is Grass and Steel type, making it weak against only Fire and Martial type moves. Fortunately for trainers, this Ultra Beast is four times weak against Fire-type attacks, so using a team full of them will benefit them the most.
Mega Charizard, both X and Y, are great options for increasing the power of your team’s Fire-type attacks and inflicting enough damage to destroy Kartana. While the Dragon-type Mega Charizard X is a good option, the Flying-type Y variant should be the way to go as it will resist many of Kartana’s moves. We’ll go into more detail about this in the section below.
As for the Mega Houndoom, the other type of Mega Fire, it can do some work as well.
For trainers who want to use the Fight types on their team, Mega Lopunny may be the way to go, but we recommend joining with a team of Fire types only. Not only will you take down Kartana faster, but your Megas will increase the Fire moves of your teammates, who will definitely use them in this battle.

Pokemon Go Kartana Move Set
Kartana has a good mix of attacks to use against trainers. The main attack moves are Grass-type Razor Leaf and Flying-type Air Slash.
All of your various Fire types will resist Razor Leaf, so trainers should be fine there while dual Flying types are more resistant to this attack. Air Slash causes problems for trainers who bring Fire types like Blaziken and Emboar as they are weak against Flying attacks. While both Pokemon will do a lot of damage, trainers using them will need to be mindful of this.
As for Kartana’s Charged Attacks, the same rules apply to Leaf Blade and Aerial Ace. X-Scissor is a Bug-type attack where Mega Houndoom will take neutral damage to it, while causing no trouble to your Fire types.
Nigh Slash is Kartana’s latest Charged Attack and gives Pokemon-like Chandelure and Delphox issues. While Kartana only has a 25 percent chance of having Night Slash in your battle, that’s something you have to reckon with.
| Fast attack | Charged Attack |
|---|---|
| Air Cut | leaf knife |
| razor blade | X-Scissors |
| Night Line | |
