The iPhone 6 can record video in 1080p, but you can record 4K video directly to your iPhone 6 with a new app. Here’s how to do this.
It seems that while the iOS software is not capable of recording 4K video out of the box, the iPhone 6 hardware is still capable of recording video in higher resolutions.
A relatively newer app called Ultrakam allows users to record 4K video on their iPhone 6s, while offering a handful of useful features to more advanced users.
4K has been on the town’s agenda for the past few years and with it promises higher resolution videos and higher resolution displays. However, while the technology is still in its early stages, it’s still not as popular as it could be, but if you’re ready to record 4K video on your iPhone 6, here’s how to do it.
The first thing you should do Download the Ultrakam app from the iTunes App Store. At $9.99 it’s a bit pricey, but if you’ve settled on the 4K recording option for the iPhone, it’s pretty much the best app to go.
From there, you can open the app and start recording 4K videos right away, but you may want to familiarize yourself with all the settings first, and there are a few settings you can change and adjust.
For example, you can change the frame rate to 20, 24, 25 or 30 frames per second. You can also disable/enable audio, choose between M-JPEG or H.264 codec, change the aspect ratio and change the quality of the video you record.
Obviously, the higher quality you use, the higher the file size. You can choose between 25% quality and 100% quality, ranging from 3MB/s video to 50MB/s video as the highest quality.
The sample video below was recorded at 3264×2448, at a quality of approximately 13MB/s, at 30 frames per second, or 50% quality. It’s a 30 second clip and it’s almost 500MB, which is a lot, so be prepared to have a lot of free space on your iPhone if you plan on recording a lot of 4K video.
Now, to transfer this 4K video to your computer, you cannot use traditional iTunes sync methods and you cannot view the video in your Photos or Video app on iPhone as the apps do not support it. Anything bigger than 1080p.
Instead, you will need to use an application on your computer called iExplorerIt allows you to transfer all kinds of files to and from your iOS device.
After downloading and installing iExplorer, connect your iPhone to your computer and run iExplorer. It should automatically detect your iPhone.
Click on which will take you to a list of your iPhone’s file system similar to that on your computer, so you should be pretty familiar with how it works. Double click on it and you will be greeted with a list of apps you have installed on your iPhone. Next, scroll down and find Ultracam6+. Click the arrow just to its right and you will see a folder named
From here, drag and drop your video file to your desktop or a specific folder. If the video is large, give iExplorer some time to import the video. After completed.
