If you have a jailbroken iPhone and have discovered that you cannot delete Cydia tweaks as easily as you can uninstall regular apps, here is how you can get around this and easily delete Cydia tweaks with very little effort.
When uninstalling regular apps, all you have to do is touch and hold the app until the app icons start to wiggle. From there, you can tap the little X icon to completely uninstall the app. It is a task that takes less than five seconds.
However, Cydia tweaks and apps and removing them are a bit different and deleting Cydia tweaks takes a lot of effort. You need to open Cydia and then view your list of installed tweaks. From there, you need to find the tweak you want to remove and then you can uninstall it. It’s a little difficult to say the least.
The good news is that there are easier methods and there is a specific Cydia tweak you can install that makes it easy to delete Cydia tweaks, just like how you would uninstall other regular apps from your iPhone.
Without further ado, here is how to easily delete Cydia tweaks from your iPhone with very little effort.
Easily Delete Cydia Tweaks
Before you start uninstalling Cydia tweaks the easy way, you need to install a specific Cydia tweak that will allow you to do that in the first place.
The tweak is called CyDelete8 and works with the latest iOS 8.4 jailbreak. To install it, go to Cydia and tap on the bottom right corner. Type “CyDelete8” in the search box and the tweak should appear in the results. Tap on it and then select it from the top right corner to install the tweak.
You’ll need to restart the springboard afterwards, but once that’s done, you’ll be ready to go.
At this point, if there is a Cydia tweak you want to remove, it will work just like any other app. Tap and hold the app icon until it starts vibrating. From there, tap on the little X icon and confirm the deletion of the Cydia tweak in question. It will be instantly removed from your home screen.
The only downside to this tweak is that it lets you delete Cydia settings that only come with app icons that appear on your home screen. CyDelete8 won’t work for every Cydia tweak, as many apps don’t come with app icons (just their own section in Settings).
This means that if there’s a Cydia tweak that doesn’t come with a home screen app icon, you’ll have to delete the tweak the old-fashioned way by going to Cydia and uninstalling it from there.
However, there is another Cydia tweak called PreDelete This allows you to delete any tweaks via the Settings pane. This will work if a particular Cydia tweak doesn’t have a home screen app icon and is only accessible from the Settings app.
When you tap and hold on a tweak listed in the settings pane, a prompt will appear, allowing you to instantly uninstall the Cydia tweak without having to go to Cydia and delete the tweak from there.
If you want the best of both worlds, perhaps PrefDelete is the best setting to have, although it doesn’t officially support iOS 8.4 yet, but that’s coming soon. There are still a handful of Cydia tweaks that haven’t been updated for iOS 8.4, but most popular Cydia tweaks work well with the latest version of iOS, so you’ll most likely come across Cydia tweaks that work just fine. on your jailbroken iPhone.
