How to Turn Off Galaxy Note 5 Notification LED Light

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus are feature-packed premium high-end devices and one that many have enjoyed for years is the notification LED light on the front of the device. This LED blinks for incoming alerts, notifications, missed calls and more. This guide explains how to turn off or disable the Note 5 notification light.

Samsung’s new Note 5 is available at multiple carriers in the United States and around the world, which means we’re getting a lot of questions to tackle certain tasks. Everything from taking a screenshot to resetting a frozen Note 5 to turning off that nasty blinking LED light.

Unfortunately, unlike older Samsung devices, we can’t control what the notification LED light uses or what colors it flashes, but we can turn it off. There are 3rd party apps that will give users full control of this, but here is how to turn it off completely for now.

Many users, myself included, love the notification LED because it means a user won’t have to look at the phone to find out if they missed a call or text because it tells us when the light flashes. But others don’t want it to blink all day or blink brightly at night while they sleep. In fact, I turn my Note 5 face down while sleeping to avoid this exact issue. I love it but it doesn’t keep me awake.

The Galaxy Note 5 notification LED lights up when the device is charging and changes from red to orange when low and then green when full. It then flashes continuously when you have unread messages, emails, missed calls and other notifications, which is very useful as we mentioned above. Instructions

Some users have reported issues where their Note 5 notification light is always flashing for no reason or their owners just want to turn it off. Fortunately this is an option in the settings that only takes a few minutes, so let’s get started.

Users will start by going into settings by selecting the gear-shaped settings button in the notification pop-up bar or by going to the settings app in the app tray. Once in the setting header, select the top column labeled “Device” and then “Sounds & notifications” and scroll to the bottom.

Under Settings > Device > Sounds & notifications, we want to turn off the last option called “LED indicator”. To turn it off, simply tap the switch. Once done, the LED light on the Galaxy Note 5 will no longer blink for notifications.

There is a problem with this, because it also turns off the LED for charging. Personally I think this should be a completely separate setting. I want to keep the notification LED for charging, but turn it off for notifications. Better still, choose which notifications can use the LED, such as older devices.

Finally, if anyone decides they want it back, go to the same settings menu and turn it back on; you are ready.
