While the stock Mail app for iOS has always been on par with the best third-party mail apps when it comes to handling emails, one useful feature that has been missing for years was the ability to mark emails with different colors. Since I use the Native Mail app for both my personal and professional needs, I wanted this feature to prioritize emails in order of importance. So I’m glad Apple has finally introduced it into the mix with some great customizations. If you haven’t figured out this nifty hack yet, continue as I show you how to mark emails with different colors in the Apple Mail app on your iPhone and iPad.
Prioritize Emails by Marking Different Colors in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13
Depending on your preference, you can choose from seven colors to mark your email. Orange is selected as the default option, but you can go with the color tone you want according to your needs. For example, red might be a better option for a high priority email, and gray might be the right choice for less important ones. And yes, it can pair pretty well with blue update emails. Having said that, let’s get started!
1. Start stock Mail app on your iPhone and iPad.
2. Now, navigate to: Inbox.
3. Next, swipe left on specific email and tap on flag press the button in the menu. Now, the email will be marked with a default orange color.
Well, if you think you’re done, let me tell you the Mail app has a lot more colors to choose from. But they are somewhat buried.
4. To choose other shades swipe left in same email and then tap on More button.
#5, you should see seven colors including orange. Pick the hue you want and you’re ready to go.
That is all! If you later want to change the color of the flag to set a different priority level, follow the steps outlined above and then choose a new color.
Uncheck Emails in the Apple Mail App on iOS and iPadOS
If you feel that a particular email is no longer important, you can easily uncheck it. To do this, go to the specific email you marked earlier. At that time, swipe left on email and choose Uncheck button.
Set Priority for Emails by Flagging on iOS and iPadOS
So you can set a priority level for emails by marking them in the stock mail app. As a user, I really appreciate this nifty little feature. While not a prominent feature in iOS 13, it’s worth considering. The latest iteration of iOS has come with a few useful features like three finger text editing gestures and two finger tap gestures for managing messages.
