Steam Deck: Valve delays the release of the dock indefinitely due to shortage

When Valve introduced the Steam Deck, it was hard not to compare it to the Nintendo Switch. The similarity is striking, except that the console doesn’t have detachable Joycons. In particular, Valve highlighted the dock, which at the time was also called the docking station, which allowed the Steam Deck’s screen to be streamed on a monitor or television.

Only here, the latter was not released at the same time as the console, and gamers are still looking forward to its arrival. At the end of April, Valve revived hopes by giving some news about the features of its dock and suggesting an upcoming release. Hopes were finally dashed Wednesday (June 1st) when the manufacturer announced that the launch of the docking station had been postponed to an indefinite date.

You will have to wait to purchase the Steam Deck slot

As expected, the new wave of COVID-19 in China is undermining the production of the device and forcing Valve to reconsider its targets. “We are actively looking for a solution and will share more information with you as soon as possible”indicates the manufacturer, who was careful not to give further details about the condition. Good news for those who have already booked their consoles: Valve guarantees it “This issue will not affect production schedule or booking times”.

The manufacturer, who is well aware of the risk that this new delay could drive gamers mad, remembers that there are other ways to connect the Steam Deck to a second display. All you have to do is plug in a USB-C multiport adapter. It’s a temporary solution that’s far from perfect, as the console doesn’t support all these adapters yet. Valve tells this that their teams are working hard to improve this compatibility while we wait to hear from the port.
